European Driver’s License

You must also submit to the French law that requires that :

  • You reach age 18
  • Your license is valid
  • You comply with the specifications on your license that involve infirmity (wearing glasses, adapting the vehicle, etc.)
  • You have not been the subject of any restrictions, suspensions, withdrawals or cancellation of your driving rights
  • You did not get your license in another Member State of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) during a period of ban to seek to obtain a driver’s license

 

In which case you need to exchange your European driving license?

You can keep your European license to drive in France.

You are only obliged to exchange it if :

  • You have committed a driving offense that led to a restriction, suspension or cancellation of driving rights, or the removal of points from the driver’s license.
  • Your license was issued in exchange for a license from a country which is not part of the EU or EEA, with which France has not concluded a reciprocal agreement.
